Weekly Photo Challenge, “Fences”
the subject is
“Fences”
suggested by OK123LetsgoFence rows, fence lines and barriers are one of my favorite things to photograph. As that is the case, I had a terrible time deciding what I wanted to use in this challenge as I have quite a few photos, evergrowing as I see something I want to add to my collection. I finally decided on instances combined with plant growth.
This is my very first fencing image I ever photographed. This beautiful spot is in Virginia Beach, Va. We were across the street in a little house we had rented to stay in during my daughter’s June, on the beach, wedding. Everything was beautiful while we were there. The month, weather, flowers and timing were perfect.
This is a display in my sister Bunny’s yard. What you see is handpainted on the wall latticework fence, NO FENCE, JUST PAINT. She is so talented and creative and she has made a little heaven on earth at her home with her artistic abilities and her love of plants and ornaments.
This is one of my favorite photos taken in my sister Jeanne’s yard. She is also artistic and has a green thumb and I know this may be the messy side of fencing, doing what some fences do, hide things, but I really loved the view of the lilies and ferns growing here.
This fenced boardwalk leads across some of the dunes in Virginia. There are tons of things that scratch and bite in the grasses but the views from the walkway always take my breath away. I love seeing all the wild growth on the dunes and in the shallow waters.
This photo was taken locally in a cemetary. When you see things of this nature you can understand why people choose them for final resting places. The beautifully fenced bridge with the grasses and water lilies and ornamental trees made this spot perfect for photo taking.
This fencing is in much need of repair but to me it is very picturesque combined with the Mail Pouch barn and what looks like deliberately planted little Oak trees. There was a time, not long past, most barns were painted with advertising. Mail Pouch was a very familiar sign when you drove the highways. Not so anymore so I grab shots whenever I see them. This one was taken on our trip to Ashland, Kentucky a few years ago to visit with Wordwarrior39.
This chainlink fence was covered with wild grape growth and the little grapes were so fresh and cute I had to take photos. I didn’t get anything I felt was super clear but I liked them well enough to keep, trashing only the worst.
I would share more but I have to keep something for the future.

I like that first shot especially. Makes me think I could possibly do this challenge, I just have to dig to find the shots! You are up late!
If I had three thumbs, well, I’d make a living winning bar bets… but first and foremost, I’d adapt to a culture in which it’s customary to raise a thumb in approval, and I would do so for an occasion such as this.
Nicely done.
It’s late.
Great picures, I love the first one.
All great photos, but I love the first one!
Great pics!
that fenced boardwalk – ahhh – such peace captured in your photograph…
Nice variety!
Very nice. The last image demonstrates that chained-link fences can be visually acceptable. When they’re hidden that nicely and photographed so beautifully.
The lattice fence is gorgeous! But I really like the dilapitated fence in the country. That’s nice.
Loved your photos.
ryc: I would love to join. My problem is I don’t get out and about much any more so all my time would be spent searching for anything I may have taken that would fit. Like fences, no one wants to see the ugly chain link around my yard. lol
beautiful.
i love the 4th shot. it loos so appealing to me to walk out and lean over it and watch the water and cat tails below.
great photos. RYC, the garden is somewhere in Vienna, Austria. I updated my entry to tell what little I know about it.
What an excellent topic! You’ve posted great examples as well!
I read back this whole page, and I have enjoyed the show! Besides the “tranquility” shots, I think one of my favorite ones is the psychedelic-y one of the guy & dog on the deck with the flowers. I know I enjoy taking photos with my little digital camera, and I have played with some of the more mundane shots the way you have – sometimes you can still pull something out of them. Maybe it makes you work harder to capture the image that was waiting there all the time! It’s so much fun – I need more storage on my computer to hold all the images, though. Do you have an extra hard drive to store yours?
Thanks for sharing the beauty and the creativity!
I love the very first one. And the one with the boardwalk has to be my favorite one. I can actually see and feel myself there!
I’ll post mine tomorrow… Too tired tonight!
Nice shots for the challenge. I’m not sure I have any fence shots… I may just have to try and take some fresh ones.

Wonderful photos – you and your sisters sure are talented ladies!
As always Great pictures Becca——like the swamp one best-
will have a look around now for some fence areas-
Kenneth
I love the fist shot,we don’t gat fences like that over here.I also love the marsh shotfor opposite reasons,it’s very much like home.
H’mm a nice selection. I also liked the swamp one best, looks to me like it is closest to nature, but scary! How many Cottenmouths in there? In view of Halie educating us on them, makes me kind of nervous. Reminds me a bit of the Paget Marshes in Bermuda, they have a fence there, but no snakes! I’ll sort it out and post it on tim_beddard when I get a chance, I also took a video of the area, which is quite nice as you can hear the chatter of the birds as well.
Thanks for your help,I’ve managed to do what I was trying to do with the blue fence pic now, thanks again,Kev.
wow, lovely photos and the mail pouch background photo was my favorite.
I forgot to ask, what type of dress would you reccomend for the restaurant. Would a nice pair of jeans and a polo be fine?
*sparkle
wow, these are all wonderful photos. Those few couple are just amazing. You have some real talent in your family!
Well for 1 I am very happy that you posted so many pictures. I agree that fences have a unique quality that it gives to photography
Beautiful collection, the hand painted one is so good , well done to your sister!
What a nice collection of fences you have here. Of course, I’m biased to the boardwalk pic
There’s no place like home; there’s no place like home. hehehe But I also am very interested in Bunny’s painted fence. I was trying to get a better look at what she’d done, but I can’t really see it well. It looks very cute.
I had a good time as well. Darn, I forgot to give you the morning glory seeds before we parted.
RYC: Thanks for the compliment… although I still want to keep all the perkiness I can for as long as I can.

I love the first image. Great composition, color, texture and contrast.

these are great shots, thank you for your visit and for the link to the group!
Hi, I was visiting sparkle’s site and saw your reponse..here I am
You take beautiful photographs. You are quite talented.
You make me hesisate , Becca . My fav is the fence in the dune . There is a contrast between the civilized life materialized by the fence ( what we may regret ) and the freedom shown by the high grasses that spread to the infinite of the dune .
I amazed by the wall painted made by Bunny in her yard . In French we call this a ” trompe l ‘ oeil ” . I believe it is the same word in English . Please tell her hello from me with my congrats for her talents in painting ..
Love
Michel
stand out for me is the painted latice work… brings a smile to the garden…
I ended up taking pup T to the park when I got home yesterday. She loved it. I posted the biker shots from yesterday. We’ll have to get together again soon and don’t let me forget to give you the morning glory seeds.

I made this video, it is of my friend Eric, but I found that when I put that music to it it made people laugh. I’m glad you approved of my comment. =)
My ‘fence’ entry has been put on hold, and hopefully I can get to it before Friday. I need to be with certain people at a certain house to get it, because I have the best idea.
Well, I’ll put it up even if I can’t get it in time, and leave you a comment so you can see it. I’d very much enjoy your approval.
Keep on taking those photos? =P

Nice fence shots, all of them. I like the old fence by the barn. In fact I think old fences are much better, they say more about a place. They still mark a boundary but they are a lot more friendly than a stark, bland new one.
Very nice fences. I had one of those weeks where I simply had nothing to add from my existing and no time to go and explore.
That first one is very beautiful. They are all well done.
I’m still trying to get around to all the other entries people have put in for the challenge. The group seems to be growing.
RYC: The new camera is a lot of fun. I’ve taken probably 100 shots with it, just to learn all the controls & settings, and to decide what settings I prefer. Of course, it was quite expensive ($480 used — I picked it up from a ‘for sale’ board on a photography forum). Even so, there are many cameras, much more expensive ones, that have better features, but this one should be enough for me for several years, I should think. Don’t be too jealous — new and better cameras are coming out all the time, so with time, I’ll bet you’ll be ready to pick up a very nice one yourself. You might try looking in the ‘for sale’ message boards on the internet, like I did (I used http://www.dyxum.com, but there’s also http://photo.net, and others). I bought my camera from a pro who was opening a new studio, and was switching from Sony/Minolta to Canon. He needed to sell his Sony camera in order to afford his new Canon equipment, so I got a good deal.
