Weekly Photo Challenge, “Water for Recreation”
the subject from Closethippie is:
“Water for Recreation”
If there is a common denominator for water recreation around the world I would have to say it would be bathing. Everyone loves a tub of hot water. As the only tub bath photos I have are of my feet, I’ll bypass the common denominator.
My Photos
Lake Isabella 1
We have a lot of very nice Hamilton County parks in our area. Water recreation is included at all of them. The closest to our home is Lake Isabella only 3 miles down the road. We visit often when the weather is nice and sometimes when it isn’t. It’s a small park where you can do about anything except golf, hunt or swim. We like to feed the ducks and talk about the lack of concern for the park. Fishermen are a pretty messy bunch who appear to care little about the tangle of line they leave on the shore and in the water. We have coveted several fat geese for our table we have seen tangled. So far someone else has managed to get to the trapped birds or maybe a fox.
Lake Isabella 2
The lake is stocked with fish at least twice a year and rain, sleet and snow you may see recreational fishermen on the shores of the lake with lines thrown in while toasting their feet at a recreational fire.
Sharon Woods Hamilton County Park is larger than Isabella and includes a much larger lake for water recreation. It has peddle boats for rent and motorized cruise boats besides row boats for fishing. They have a wonderful golf course and a city of historic buildings decorated at Christmas but available for view year round during special park hours. There is a nice museum and always nature classes.
This view shows a fisherman enjoying water recreation on the Ohio river as seen from Woodland Mound Hamilton County park.
This is Rocky Fork lake in Hillsboro, Ohio. Lots of swimming goes on in the hot months as well as boating and camping.
This is a normal hot afternoon of recreational water play in the lake at Rocky Fork
Recreational fishing doesn’t just happen at the lake. Some of my best photos came from here on the river in Rockford, Illinois where the locals picnic on the banks while they fish. Lots of broken glass keep you from running barefoot but no one fishing seems to mind.
A repeat performance of this photo I caught from the overhead bridge at Friendship, Indiana. The day was hotter than Hades and the water was nice. Kids always know where to find water recreation and when to enjoy it.
My grand daughter began swimming on teams while in Spain. She brought the interest back home to the states so she now swims on her team at Princess Anne School in Virginia. I took the photo but haven’t a clue if she is in the pic. I couldn’t tell her from Adam or other swimmers in the water.
Another repeat, this is Eden transposed from a shot her mom took in Spain during a swim meet. I transposed Halie’s photo to one I took in the USA at a little spot on the Miami River.
An Ashland, Kentucky view taken in 2005 while visiting Xanga’s Wordwarrior39. Jim likes to write so he enjoys creative writing in little spots used by water recreation advocates.
This view also from our Ashland trip. My water recreation comes in the form of taking photos.
This family enjoys looking at the water as they rest a little from their biking. I caught them at the overlook in Eden Park in Cincinnati.
My taking photos of all the wet stuff I can find along with whatever comes along on the ride is a tremendous recreation for me. This shot has probably been documented by the millions by previous camera buffs but today, it’s mine taken as a practice shot. I looked at the hills and little homes and thought “Christmas Village”.
One last image for the road and I’ll put this entry to bed like the boats in the harbor. Sails unfurled they sleep fitfully waiting for boating weather or sooner. Water recreation advocates can’t be tied up for long.

Wonderful photos Becca. I love to see everyone’s corner of the world.
some beautiful shots and a great theme to this…
Great shots! I like 3, 4 and 6 best of these. I only paddle, or wade I think you call it in the US, I love to do that in the sea at low tide.
YOU certainly gave a wonderful display of the topic. You have a good eye for composing a good photo. I tried to pick a favourite but they all were a joy to see. If I really must choose one that I like most then it will be from the overhead bridge at Friendship, Indiana. I appreciate the way the focus takes you to the boy at the bottom and him looking into the photo.
A very wide choice of answers to the challenge, which you most certainly have done well with all your photographic illustrations of fishing, boating, swimming and other activities. Hard to make a choice as favourite but as a photo I think I like the view of the Ohio from the Bridge. Photo number 12, but as I said it is hard to choose.
Awesome photos! All of them are magnificent
water, water everywhere! though i like the fishing rods and the one of the bikes the best and the mixture of the lake and Eden works really well.10 out of10!!
Great photos! I love the close-up of the fishing poles and the contrast of the blue grating, and the way the bridge a few shots down is framed by the trees!
What a beautiful world you live in. Beautiful photos.
Did enjoy the trip with you.
All great shots. I particularly love that fisherman. The way the boat is framed by the grasses and bushes. It almost looks like a toy boat. Awesome picture – somthing I would try to shoot.
Your pictures are gorgeous. ^^ They have subjects, they’re all clear and focused, and you don’t need a caption for any scene. The picture simply states it’s purpose. And plus, you don’t look like you’re taking a picture of a pose, it’s a snapshot of the moment, like a scene in the middle of a movie. It’s right in the middle, of the heart or everything.
The bottom line is, nice picturees. xD.
@agony_is_me16 - what a nice comment you left for me. I am not sure my photos are quite as good as you describe but your praise is definitly an ego booster which I need at times. Thank you so much.
Becca
what great pictures…i think my favorites have tot be the one w/ the lake and the fall foliage and the way you captured the swimmers at Rocky Forge Lake. But the way you captured the cyclists – amazing shots!!
Mega Post! Great pictures and an insight into your neck of the woods.
fun- definitely fulfills the challenge obligations!!
you’ve got some interesting shots… just keep in mind that not ALL fisherman are messy… and those that are I would venture to say need a fresh lesson in wildlife management/stewardship.. it’s fishermen/outdoorsmen like that that make others lose their privilages to so many private lakes and properties.. which means that over time fewer and fewer public places will exist due to lack of interest due to lack of enthusiasts due to the fact that their parents/friends/family didn’t introduce them to it due to the fact that it was harder to have access to such places…
Alright, i will get off my soapbox.. nice pics
How many pictures so different Becca . The pleasure comes from their diversity .
I especially like the fisher man in the boat , the children in the water ( taken from the bridge ) and also the bicyclists by the sea . I love also the town in the valley . It is difficult to make a choice . Fortunatly it is not asked .
Love
