  • Weekly Photo Challenge, “Crunch Time”

    Weekly Photo Challenge

    the subject from, Czolya is:

     … Crunch Time ” …

I lived through a frustration this evening, learning once again, from the experience.  The moral of my story, there is more than a single way to skin a cat.  The Xanga uploader will not load animations, in working order.  I tried maybe 5 times until, rethinking the problem, I loaded the animation from inside the editor, and it’s working.  If I can remember what I have learned, for the next time around, I’ll be very pleased with myself.

So, I salvaged my entry which I thought was SHOT DOWN, by the Xanga Gods.

It’s that time of year, heading into the discovery of new Recipes to crunch/munch into and lots of family gatherings.

    It’s Crunch Time

    Now, that’s scary!

Tomato, Cranberry, Orange soup and Hot tea or apple cider make a fun meal for Halloween.  It’s Yummy.

2 cans of tomato soup (I use Campbell’s)
    2 cans of water

1 can of whole cranberry sauce or cranraspberry sauce, sort of smoothed out with a fork before adding.  Don’t break the berries up.
1 can of mandarin oranges including the juice, same size can as the cranberries
OPTIONAL:  ChiChi salsa and I use about a 1/6 of the tomato soup can for each can of soup
OPTIONAL:  Splenda or sugar to equal the packets used, 2 packets per can of soup
OPTIONAL:  I like to add into the ladled bowls of soup, a tablespoon or two of real cream.  Cooking it will curdle the cream if it gets too hot.
GARNISH:  Ground Cinnamon and fresh grated nutmeg is nice, too.

DIRECTIONS:  Mix soups with the water till smooth.  Heat till good and hot, don’t burn.  Add all other ingredients mixing well then reheat to a nice eating temperature. Ladle into bowls, add cream now if you plan to use it, dust with cinnamon and/or nutmeg and serve.  Gingersnaps are good with this or your choice of saltines.

Have a great week, Xanga.  Keep your kids safe over Halloween by attending a supervised party instead of trusting in unknown neighbors who may be the bogeyman disguised as Mr. Nice.

  • Yes great animation Becca! and a nice recipe too, hope you enjoy/enjoyed your week end away, in reply to Michel above, Halloween IS celebrated in this part of france, maybe as we are so close to Germany, i dont know, we shall be going to see a friend tonight not for halloween but because i forgot his birthday last week

  • Love it Becca.  Looks more like “Munch time” than “Crunch time”.  Have a great weekend.

  • Very intuitive Becca. Such a nice animation of the pumpkin! Must show it to the kiddies. Recipe looks good.

  • @gandywhite - I had to edit your word, Munch into my blog.  You are so right, it’s more Munch than Crunch but I had to think of something for this challenge.  I hate not to do anyones challenge no matter how hard to think of something.  Good for my brain, working out “what to do”.

    Have a great weekend.  Becca

  • @fauquet - Hugs to you both, Michel.  You are my kind of people.  Becca

  • Quiet  a  bit  work  went  into  that  animation  Becca—you  clever  girl

  • Great post, both the animation and the food. We had baked pumpkin this year but it was not as tasty as last year’s soup.

  • @rojobe - we are big soup lovers in our house.  We will try about anything and though some are a little on the different side, they work for particular occassions.  We could use a really good pumpkin soup recipe here if you are willing to share.  Thanks for the comment.

  • yummy and great photos.

  • Delicious soup.   I have to make it…….I love to cook……..maybe I can make it for the volunteers this year when I do the cooking for them….warm their tummies and their taste buds……If you ever want to try some of my recipes I will give you the link to my other site.

  • Thanks for the insightful comments…I enjoyed reading them as there is much we agree about.

I like the new Name ….it fits your style very well!

    Doug

  • @Dosmangoes - Actually, this site, PhotoGraphics is my photo site and it is one of several I have in Xanga.  I did change my LittleEgypt name today.  It now has my real name, http://www.xanga.com/RSBlain .  I decided a while back that anything that hints at reflections of the Arab world, makes me uncomfortable now.  As I said, the name came from a fifties song but there have been people in my xanga past who seemed to think I was Arab because of the name.  After this election, I just couldn’t stomach it anymore, so the change.  Becca
