Weekly Photo Challenge, “Something Old, Something New”
Visit and play the
Weekly Photo ChallengeI had visitors over the Labor Day Weekend. My son-in-law “the old or older”, my daughter, “the new or newer” and my only grandchild Eden, “the newest”. All rationalizing of titles is based on their ages.
My Photos
1- Mitch on the left, Halie center and Eden sitting on our porch bench, saying their goodbyes as this is a going back home photo.
2- From the first set of photos after their arrival, Saturday eve, Mitch the older and Eden the newest are waiting as Halie the newer backs her motorcycle out of the drive. They are visiting us for the weekend and Halie’s 20th high school reunion is this evening. All three are attending.
3- Minor adjustments and maybe some instruction going on here before they drive off. Mitch the older is a seasoned rider but Halie the newer has been riding by herself for only a few months. My nerves got the best of me during their drive as it’s about 700 miles from theirs to ours. Total the trip back and its 1400 or more, the planned drive taking 4 days of driving and stopping for the night, shortning the time spent on the road each day.
4- All three ready to go, Eden rides with her dad.
5- They have an audience while starting out.
6- This is Monday morning and the older and the newer are bundled up for their return trip to Virginia. It rained all night and is still drizzling. The rain and slippery roads gives me more to worry about. They called us from each of their stops.
7- I know this is a pastime for a lot of people but when your daughter gets on a 750 pound Harley by herself and takes a trip of 1400 plus miles when she hasn’t been riding long, tell me you won’t worry! No matter how old or new, novice or seasoned I can’t help but feel a lot of mixed emotion. Halie has a mind of her own and has passed it along to Eden. Eden flew in from Maryland where she is now attending university, her first year. She flies back later on the day of these last two photos.
To be honest I have had a case of nerves and tried to come up with something else to post but this trip wouldn’t abandon my mind where it kept rotating “old and new” rider. So there you have it.
Have a good week and thanks always for your comments.

Looks like I am the first to comment. Thinking of Mitch and Halie as old makes me feel really redundant, but I know what you mean. Great to see the family out together on their Harleys. ~ Tim
Nice photo’s Becca! I too feel ancient as you list any of these people as old, but I also get your meaning.
Great photos- they travel very light where the heck are their belongings. I too would have some -a lot- of concern about a trip that was that distance. They look wonderful -a lovely group you have.
Now, I get the “old” and “new” thing (went way over my head in the email). I’m glad you managed to get a photo of me smiling. We were pretty serious that morning we left, not knowing what to expect from the weather. Overall, we had an easy trip back, with only a little rain when leaving Cincinnati and just a little more arriving back home. The B&B was gorgeous, and we had a lovely time together. The trip was definitely one to remember with several firsts for me and Mitch being just wonderful.
Our belongings, by the way, are in our respective saddle bags. As a Girl Scout leader that loved to camp, I learned the trick of rolling up outfits and sealing them tight in ziplock bags after squeezing out all the air. We each had two pair of jeans, a nice outfit, and a hiking outfit. I had my boots, flipflops, & sneakers, while Mitch just had his boots & flipflops. My only luxiury was a small hair dryer & flat iron, and I didn’t even use them (what a waste of space!) I also had my camera with two lenses, & tripod. Practice makes for packing lightly. It’s liberating, really.
Thanks for sharing your post with me, Mom
Ladies’ ride tomorrow. vroom vroom.
oh, that photo up there of Eden in the middle, hands on her hips, is really funny.
Beautiful photos. I am trying to imagine my daughter riding across the country on a motorcycle with a husband. Yes, “worry” and “concern” come to mind.
Beautiful photos of them on the motocycles and great choice for this challange.
Hi Dear Becca!
Thank you so much for your visit and for your nice words. I’m glad you enjoy my posts about Portugal!
I see that your daughter made it safely to your house. What a big trip. You had reasons for being worried… My daughter already felt twice on her bike but it was nothing serious. Just some bruises…
How can Halie handle such a heavy bike? By the way what a beautiful daughter you have!
Your pictures are great and I can’t say witch is my favorite. Maybe number 4 as she seems so confident.
Congratulations for the pictures, but mainly for having such a brave daughter!
Have a wonderful week,
Isabel
@halie -
Congratulations for being so brave!
Ladies do ride!
Isabel
I understand your stress , Becca , because Haly was really a “newer” rider of motorbike and her engine is a powerful one . But she is very decided and determined . Finally they did well . Bravo to them and they look happy .When I was young I rode a little motorbike too . It was exciting . The scale of the distances was different ( 140 km for me around 1950/60).
I am sure Eden will be doing well at the Uni .
I have been absent during a week for a trip in Brittany a region of west France .
Love
Michel
