  • Snow and Ice

    Cold but Beautiful

Our winter, so far, is mild even with the snow that spread a blanket across the mid west downing power lines and closing airports and locking people into motels away from family over Christmas.  I am sleeping with a window cracked open at night for fresh air.  It was closed for a while but it’s not cold enough right now.  I won’t drag out the small talk in this blog entry but will show some mixed shots I took dating from December 16 up until yesterday, the 4th of January with minor explanation.

A first dusting for the season fell about the 15th of the month.  Icy cold, I brought out my warm slippers.

That first dusting led to this on the 23rd, the day we were supposed to leave for my sisters in Illinois.  Our snowfall measured about 14 inches, very little comparatively.

Small mountains appeared as if by magic everywhere but the pristine white crystals soon turned to blackened sludge when people began braving the drives.

We always have time off from Christmas to New Year.  We celebrate 4 special occasions within the time span.  Eating out in cozy spots is one of our favorite things to do often and the camera view on this day was more than expected.

We had the perfect weather for Santa Claus and I imagine he found his way to charted destinations all over the world, eventually.

Hoping everyone had a super Christmas and New Year.  I have many photos I’d like to share.

    Till the next time,

  • Nice, and I’m jealous of the snow. I REALLY like the santa sleigh and reindeer. Those deer make a great leading line up to the sleigh.

  • Your world is beautiful!

  • I love the reindeer picture! I am from Colorado. Your pictures made me miss the snow ………..

  • Snow is beautiful to look at. That is about it.

  • It’s cold, rainy, the river has risen, and may continue to do so overnight. I was over at the Ohio River earlier today, watching a barge flow downstream rather quickly. The flow is a good pace, as well. I should be taking some pictures tomorrow.

  • I enjoyed seeing your pictures of snow.  That’s probably the only way I’ll see any snow this year.  We’re expecting temps. near 70 deg. all this week.

  • Our silly weather can’t decide if it wants to be winter or spring.

  • That last photo blows me away. so neat.

  • That first photograph almost looks like an abstract painting. :)

  • thanks for the intro……………….glad you liked the pix. am currently trying to chase down an eagle in the area (they are beginning to return to MI). have some working knowledge of them and of putting myself ‘in their shoes’ (in this case, wings!) so i can figure where to catch them. going to get in touch with the dept of natural resources and see if they are aware of this particular one. used to work for tha zoo in lansing as a docent.

will be putting pix up regularly barring all difficulties i run into!

    ttyl!

  • I will be soon experiencing that kind of cold and I will have the nannycam ready.

  • The 2nd shot looks so peaceful. I love the quite-ness of snow.

  • I added three new pix to my site. No snow, and what we did get a couple of days ago is long gone. I think we might not be so lucky next time.
