Weekly Photo Challenge, “Fire and Ice”
*** BANNER CONTEST ***
Halie is having A BANNER CONTEST
Read her Xanga blog for information. CLICK HERE.the subject is:
”Fire and Ice”
Suggested by: GitarezanI have seen spectacular photos on the Internet for both of these subjects in this challenge.
FIRE: At this time we have terrible fires in our Western state of California. I hope anyone reading will remember that part of the world in their prayers.
ICE: Lots of ice on this planet but dwindling. Scientists have convincing evidence it is because of Global Warming!!! We all need to be praying on that matter as well as doing everything we can to alleviate the stress on the planet. We only have one planet to leave our children and we, the HUMAN?? RACE, do some very stupid things to it. Germany by the way is an outstanding leader in the field of Solar Power. I commend them and wonder just why my country has refused to jump in long ago to be among the tops in the field to combat the terrible problems our planet has because of fossil fuels. Greed, greed, greed,Shame on us.
The challenge Fire and Ice, my photos:
Fire: Nothing beats a bonfire for warmth, light, and cozy enjoyment.
An outdoor dance always seems more festive with a bonfire burning.
This dance takes place around a bonfire every evening during the market in June and September at Friendship Fleamarket.
Ice sparkles like millions of jewels this past February 2007, Cincinnati, Ohio. This ice covered Honey Suckle shrub grows in the back of my home. IMAGINE, the whole of your world looking like this for miles and miles around you!!!
I had to add this photo as an edit (10/28/2007) to my post. Many of you may not live where you see snow and ice. It isn’t the norm for us to get it like this either. Usually snow passes my little town by circling around and to the North so when this happened it was such a spectacular and unexpected event I took hundreds of photos. This photo is exactly as we saw the ice storm. The colors are true. All of the white of the trees is ice with the sun shining thru it. It was an amazing event that lasted for days and on top of it all, we had a day of more snow that sat on all of the ice already on the branches. Just beautiful to see and I’ll never forget how blessed I felt to have witnessed it. For those of you who see more snow and ice than I do, I just can’t help myself loving this singular experience of cold as ice views.
Fir branches loaded with ice. Every needle is covered and it weights the branches some to the point of breaking.
Even the dried Winter grasses are covered with a coat of ice. The beauty of it is astounding.
What can you say about an icy view so magically beautiful? except Ohhhhhhh.

totally awesome photos
Great choices of both fire and ice for this weeks challenge.
I enjoyed your photo’s …I am still looking for ideas on how to aproach the topic.
Beautiful photos!
absolutely beautiful ice covered plant growth lovely lovely -g
I love the icicle shots the best! Soooooooooo pretty! Thanks for sharing!
I can do the ice part now to find the fire part. Enjoyed you take on the subject.
I’m cold just looking at these.
Nice photos.
Wonderful post – I can almost smell the bonfire! I love the photo of the ice laden honeysuckle with the lovely red shed in the background!
RYC if you’d only seen me trying to get that close up! There was an inch of solid ice and it had formed a hill that I had to get over without breaking any of my bones or my camera!!!
Love the ice shots from the ice storm. That storm did create a magical land out of Cincinnati didn’t it?
Thanks for your comment about Dusty. It has been a tough day.
*sparkle
Great message up there, and the fire reminds me of the Texas Renissance (I know I’m not spelling that right) festivles that I go to every year. Everyone’s drinking and dancing around the fire, it’s really amazing. Of course, being seventeen, I don’t do any of the drinking. =P
RYC: He was a very special little guy….full of love. He was the first bunny I ever had come up to me and ask for nose rubs and lovins.
T is in too much pain to go anywhere right now but let me know when you are going. I may be up for it. We are supposed to be getting together with my family sometime this weekend to celebrate the many October birthdays we just had.
*sparkle
I think you had your ice storm shortly after we did last winter. I remember you posting pics then. Haven’t been to a bonfire in years and years. They are not good for asthmatics! And hate my clothes and hair smelling of smoke. But I enjoy pictures and videos of them.
I don’t think I will be doing this challenge. The thought of snow and ice depresses me already! Hate winter!!!
I hope Hallie is getting a good response to her contest. I wouldn’t even attempt to try it.
that honeycuckle covered in ice, its absolutely beautiful!!
Beautiful photos! I like the last one especially!
)
Specticular!!!!! I love plants that are covered in ice. It’s hard to believe that there is something living under that all that ice.
Wow! the ice shrouded fir and the last shot are beautiful and intriguing.
Ditto what rojobe said. The fir and the grasses are captured moments.
nature is wonderful!
You certainly have a gift of capturing these challenges in photography Becca. Terrific stuff!
These are great, i like the way you have taken the subject to another level with the people dancing etc, love the colours in the fir tree shot!I’m hoping this will be a “good”winter with loads of snow, i love taking snow pics.
I love your photos. I am not a fan of ice storms, though. The last one that came through here two years ago, caused havoc. It was nearly a week before power and lights came back on at my place. SHUDDER! But it is beautiful when the light hits it….gotta love the prism and rainbow colors.
Lonnie was just talking to me today about ice storms. I can’t imaging trying to get down their drive in snow and ice, though! Eeeks. I like your first fire photo, but I’m wondering what the rectangular things are. They aren’t normal shapes for a fireplace, unless you’re resorting to burning furniture! Looks like cut wood.
OOOH I love the bonus photo. We used to get 2-3 feet of snow dumped on us up in New Hampshire in winter. But we never experienced a real ice storm in the years we were there. We had to wait til we moved South to Oklahoma for that!
The last photo of the grasses is my favourite.
Very nice representation of fire and ice!!! Good job!
The bonus photo is GREAT!! RYC: yeah, I learn a lot about my spouse through his blogging. He’s pretty doggone suave.
That ice storm was so magical. I loved the fact that it hung around for days on the trees and grass. I fancied it as my own personal world of glass.

Remarkable ice pictures!
