Weekly Photo Challenge, “String”
the subject from Gitarezan is:
“String”
Some of my graphics
The image on the left is sporting a stringy or torn look cape. I like capes so suppose that is why she ended up with one. On the right, a skater in her fancy skating outfit and I had to have pompoms and they are suspended with “String”.
I’m not all that artistic but once in a while I try drawing with Paint Shop Pro and that is how these images were created. It’s fun and something different to do. All of these images are totally mine.
My version of Mr. Bill, another of my PSP drawings using selections tools. His scruffy look and “string”y beard came in handy for this challenge.
These ladies were created for Valentines one year. Notice their “Strings” of Pearls.
On the more serious side, I really do use string for a lot of things, from trussing up chickens and turkeys to tying up garbage bags to holding up ornamentals, which I have a lot of. The grape cluster is quite old, a molded glass shape and probably from Germany. The very large and some of the others seen here are made of Mt. St. Helens ash and all were blown by glass blowers. The lighter blue round, hanging at the top is Wedgewood and hanging on the right is a fired clay wind chime. I have a really large collection of the Christmas ornaments and a smaller collection of windchimes including one of copper pipe which hangs to the side of my bed where it is disturbed everyonce in a while so I can enjoy the sound. I love hearing the musical sounds they make.
Nearly everyone has heard of “String Quartets”. My image is a “stringed quartet portrait”. I would like to tell you my family is very talented, and able to play these instruments. There have always been good intentions but nothing serious ever really happened in the way of our musical talents, EXCEPT for a love of the beauty of instruments and the music they make. There actually is one real exception in our family, John’s brother David, who loved bluegrass music. Dave was self taught and played more than one stringed instrument. He could also carry a tune singing Bill Monroe in circles, with his down south, bluegrass nasal. Dave taught his wife to play string instruments and his son picked up playing the guitar by watching his dad. They enjoyed playing in neighborhood groups as well as at bluegrass festivals, having great fun. The banjo on the left, is one, of ?? number of banjo’s, handmade by Dave, from cast iron skillets. The sound is incredible and when Dave sang and played, you were entertained.
This image tells the tale of the banjo quite well. I layered in a small image, top left and it is from the neck of the banjo. The dots are live primers he used on his banjo’s. He was adventuresome (a little wacky maybe) as well as talented.
Stringy hair, string bikini, string bean, shoe-string potatoes, string of pearls, no strings attached, string you along, shoe-string budget are a few thoughtful but “STRING”Y images I’ll leave you with. I am pretty sure there are a few more.

Oh neat graphics. I love them. You are very talented. Judi
These are great!!!!! You seem to have a knack for graphics as well as photos. I always look forward to what you post as I know there is always a combination of things and I like that.
PG,
I made it! Whew…even had to sign in!!!
Love the fun images here, I really look forward to your contribution.
One question, does Dave sell banjoes he makes? I made my first banjo a few months back and am still learning, ever so slowly, how to play! (sort of like teaching a brick to jump!) But I would love to own one of those great pieces if the price is not over the top?
Let me know luv!
@jassmine - Hi Judy, thanks for the “talented” in your comment. I wish I were much more than I am. I try. Becca
@Gitarezan - Your comments always “up my day”. I appreciate your enthusiasm for my entries and hope I don’t run into snags with challenge, not having what it takes to do one. Some of these challenge, especially yours, give me a real workout. I do have fun with all of them. As always, thank you.
@dreadpirate - Hi Dread, I’m so glad you managed to make it into my site. You really do need “CABLE”. Okay, 1- I’m glad you will include me in your project and 2- Yes, Dave did sell his banjo’s but, he lived an unbelievably great life, living and doing what he was happiest doing, hunting, trapping, singing and playing. He honestly lived one of the most contented lives I know of though he had his trials including being bitten by a rattlesnake, once. Anyhoo, Dave also suffered what I think was the best kind of death. Never really sick, that I know of, he was having lunch with his wife, talking away and had a massive heart attack that killed him instantly. It was a shocker for all of us and obviously shocked him into the next world. What a way to die, I can’t think of a more charmed life or death. The banjo’s have more story to them, a trunk load of them going to a festival for selling, was hit in the rear. The car and all of the banjos were totalled and passengers hurt but not as bad as the banjos. I don’t know if Dave made any more after that accident. I do know a banjo promised to my husband never made it here. The one we have was given to John by a cousin who thought John should have it over and above herself. We feel blessed and amazed we even have it. Becca
Interesting work. I like the drawings. The instrument photos turned out really nice too.
RYC: Thanks for your comment. I’m glad you like my photo.
@PhotoGraphics -
Becca I think you are talented. Judi
an interesting answer to the challenge. I love photos of instruments for some reason…
great graphics!
Plenty of string to choose from here, but I have to admit the instruments are my favourites – not that I have anything against your artwork.
Great post Becca, of course i have to say i like the instuments the best and great to think someone hand made the banjo, its one thing to play an instument but quite another to be able to make one!
Fuzz is a ham in front of the camera. I love taking photos of her and she is sp photogenic. Thanks:)
@stixandstonz - I can understand the fun you have taking photos of your Fuzz . I love it when I am at my sisters or daughters as there are cats and dogs there, to photograph. The cats are a fit, at least my sister’s cat is as it seems to like my taking its photo and makes sure it stays in the center of my attentions with the camera. John’s cousin’s cat is the same way, come to think of it. Anyway, I keep trying for different poses and almost always get something I didn’t have before. I love having them around posing for me.
I like the ornaments and the instruments, esp. the bottom pic the best!! Very nice…
Wow! Yet another display of artistic talent and very educational too. I never knew you were all so musically talented. Without more ado put up a video recording of your family group playing their instruments. Perhaps Ken would give an accompaniment on the keyboard. I think your interpretation of strings was very good.
The graphics are so neat. You have lots of talent there! The photos are very good also. I love the ornaments. Great job!
You arre talented in drawing Becca . I like these ones .
And the gathering of the music instruments is warm colored .
I imagine the creative feeling you must have in doing this .
Love
Michel
