ALL OF THE PHOTOS POSTED IN THIS ENTRY ARE UNTOUCHED EXCEPT FOR THE SIZING AND SMALL FRAME AS I BELIEVE THE EXERCISE IS FOR A DISPLAY OF WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE LONGER EXPOSURE.

#1- This one looks across my computer mouse into my living room which was set in a darker light being later in the evening.  Taken without flash, exposure time was 2 and 1/2 seconds.

#2- I believe all of these photos from inside the car were taken on our drive back from Virginia.  Sitting inside the car for a light or possibly in a center somewhere, Exposure time, 8 seconds.

#3- Inside the moving car, the Dashboard, 10 seconds

#4- Car Lights, 8 seconds.  I forgot to say on this one, I had the camera in hand bringing it around and around in deliberate circles to see what I would get.  What amazes me is the color the camera sees that I don’t seem to see untill I look at the captured exposure.

#6- Some of my screensavers in motion, 30 seconds

    #7- Screensaver:  30 seconds

    #8- Screensaver, same as #7,  8 seconds

#9- And this is an older one, taken at Lake Isabella, the night of August 30, 2008, 7:44 P.M..  I saw the girls walking and decided to take the image.  Exposure time is .8 seconds.

It’s obvious for something moving in a still photo, the image blurs more, the longer the exposure.  A long time exposure on a still subject at night is necessary to allow more light into the camera so the image shows up.  No light, no image no matter how long the exposture even if you can get the shutter to open.  I like playing and learning and my discovery is, even the mistakes can be fun and useful.

Have a great week, thanks always for your comments.

  • Long exposures can make for pretty interesting pictures!!

  • These are great photos. I like the long exposure. My camera does not do anything that fancy. Judi

  • I love the car lights! I hope the photographer wasn’t the one driving… it’s dangerous, especially when doing long exposure shots =)

    Wonderful

  • @guestbrief - Re:  long exposures can make for interesting pics, yes they can.  The final photo on my page heappened in just the way I would like to deliberately get some photos, more or less looking like a double exposure.  If I find time enough someday I would like to discover how to, deliberate.

@jassmine - Hi Judi, thanks for your visit.  Your camera may do more than you think given the right light and movements.

@ihsankhairir - re:  the photographer driving LOL, nope, i’m the passenger, nearly always and that is exactly why some of those photos at night as I get REALLLLY BORED in the car and the camera helps fill in the time especially when it’s dark and very little to see of interest.  THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR COMMENTS.

  • I only have a Kodak Easy Share I don’t think I can do this with it. I ask my online tutor he says no. Judi

  • My favourites are the first and the last. I find the screen savers interesting but I am glad you told me what they are, I don’t think I would have known otherwise. Seems to me that this an experiment in special effects.

  • I can see you had fun with this post. I think I like the jumpy car lights best – very arty.

  • Wow!  Now that is photography!

  • Always love your pics

  • @jassmine - Hi, you need a better camera.  For someone who loves to post photos as much as you do, you would love posting more or your own even more.  I barely ever use anything not my own, its more fun to take them.

@graphic_excesses - Well Tim, I barely ever use screensavers anymore and wouldn’t know what the images were either.  I needed things for this challenge and decided the screensavers would work well for it and, they did.

@rojobe - I liked all the color in those lights from the cars and still wonder how so many show up as you don’t see them on the road.  It’s kind of amazing and to be honest, it was fun taking them.  It’s a good thing its done at night in the car where people cant see you as it looks a bit crazy doing a dance with a camera.

@Nanny - I’ve been neglecting you so need to hop over to your site to see what you have been up to.  Abnormal lifestyle here at the time.

@Zeal4living - Thank you so much, you are always so nice in your comments.  It means a lot to hear nice words from everyone.    THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO TAKES THE TIME TO VISIT AND SAY A FEW WORDS.  Becca

  • You speak of mistakes or unusual use of the camera . I believe it is with this kind of ” mistakes ” the arts and sciences have been in progress . The photos 4 to 8 are amazing , Becca .
I noticed in trying photo with or without flash , the picture without flash have sometimes warmer colors and are more natural .
    Playing is experiecing !

    Love
    Michel

  • I forgot to pust a s to the words photos and pictures . My mind is probably a bit blurry too ! Excuse me.
    Michel

  • @fauquet - Hi Michel, absolutely, we learn from our mistakes.  I can’t tell you how many things I learn by accident and from mistakes.  I love every second of discovery.  Hope you and Janine are doing okay.  I would imagine Janine is in about the same state of mind I have been in lately.  Anyway, things are progressing here in the most uncomfortable and stressful ways.  I need something calming, maybe a cup of herbal tea.  :)   Becca

  • Great stuff Becca, some of them look like you are going in my direction the last photo is really good , thats just the thing i meant .
