Weekly Photo Challenge, “Textures”
Visit and play the
Weekly Photo ChallengeEverything is more exciting when textured. Textures create light and shadow that give color “shape, form and feel” to our views and even words we voice are textured by inflections or change in sound. Texture is in every emotion from pleasant excitement to heart pumping terror and in the books we read and the pictures we hang we elevate excitement with texture. There is no terror in my photos but hopefully there is some interest from contained textures and views around my home. My photos span from April 2009 to September 20, 2009.
My Photos
1- This is the back of our little house, enriched with a great brick texture in a nice earth tone. This image was taken in April and the sunshine brought up the color. I have Hosta and Lilies well up at the right hand side along with a bumper crop of Peppermint because of a poor planting decision but it all gives texture and the Peppermint textures the breeze, with a nice smell.
2- This is the front or our house and it’s June. We got a late start at some of the things I wanted to try out. The upright is one of 5 John seated specifically for Morning Glories. We have a lot of texture just from the variety of mess and things needed to keep up with the growing textures.
3- We planted a very small bit of garden for tomatoes and some okra and summer squash and fenced it to keep the deer from eating it. Nothing in the vegetable line did well but the Okra plant is lovely. The spot is too shady and our Summer had record cools. The flowers managed and the Ajuga is thriving so I’ll set cuttings taken from it next year. The flowering plants are giving us enjoyable texture and color. My Morning Glories took their time but finally took off in all spots. You can see a second upright behind the fence to the left of John.
4- Here you see all textures being watered.
5- A third upright planted where we can see it from inside the house. The Morning Glory leaves are beautiful and the flowers opened clear to the top even on the roof. The reflection is in my picture window and John is the steadiest with the camera so he got to take this photo.
6- This is my view from inside and I took the photo today (September 21), just for this challenge. Next year I’ll plant several kinds of vine including Clematis.
7- A close up from John’s good camera eye. The Glories give us a lot of pleasure plus color and texture. I’m hoping the photos shared give you some as well.
Thanks always for your comments.
Wishing you some mind boggling textures for your photos and your conversational blogs. Have a super week.

Although blue has always been my favorite color (I don’t know why), these pictures are making me see the virtue of green. Lovely lovely.
Now that is one great house, garden and yard.
@stixandstonz - Yes, it is a great little house and I should appreciate it more. I think you mentioned you had done some complaining about yours a couple of weeks ago. I do the same and the truth of it is, the house is too small but then, I try to remember, lots of people before O’B and since O’B don’t have houses at all. We have done some things that help a lot but I sure wish I had a huge eat in kitchen. Thanks for the comment. I need to be reminded to be much more thankful much more of the time. The truth is, I’m very blessed.
Wow, your garden and home is very beautiful.
I love the shot of the glories, the texture of the pedals is simply elegant. =]
@thehighbreed - Thanks for your comment, you are very kind. The house is very small but being on the end of the street it has privacy we have enjoyed. Our lot is only 50′ x 135′ which is pretty small but we managed to raise two children and a lot of dogs and a few cats here. No basement or attic, and a single bath I always hoped would morph into at least two but it didn’t happen. Outside is wonderful as you can see a lot of wildlife given time. That is worth a lot to someone who enjoys taking photos. Looking forward to more photos from you in upcoming challenges. Have a good week.
You have a beautiful house.
How nice to also have a tour of your garden.. my favorite is the view of the morning glory from inside the house (6).
Wonderful pics friend focused and colour—-magi—-Kenneth
Nice to see around your estate Becca. Looks like You and John have put a lot of work into it lately. The Morning Glories remind me of the old tribe roads and disused rail track in Bermuda where they are very evident. We don’t have morning glories in Britain but we have a very pretty similar flower which is white. I love the flower but every time it rears its head in our garden we get the weed killer out as it is actually a very invasive weed which throttles all other plants both above and below ground level. ~ Tim
I liked very much the first chapter of this post where you define texture . I agree totally . We feel the texture .
About the pictures the two last inspire me especially the leaves of the glories : the green and the light on and through the leaves .
Good job Becca.

OOOHHHHH!!!! I love the flower!!! Bu I really like the storyline that you added to guide us through…thank you !
Well received , Becca, the message with the map with newpaper ‘s front page of the day in every big town in the world .
But For France there was only one town : Paris ???? and the news paper was “the tribune ” .
Anyway this is interesting and gives an idea of what people focus on .
Thank you, my friend.
