the Weekly Photo Challenge
It runs for one full week from Friday mornings to late Thursday nights. The challenge beginning June 18, 2010 is:“Animals”
suggested by ZimboMy sister has two very large dogs they live with. I spent a month with Jeanne and husband and dogs from May 22 until June 14 so had plenty of time to take some new photos of her pony sized Animals.
1- Both of the dogs are good sized (small ponies). Cappy the blond is a mixed breed that was supposed to stay small, but didn’t. He is the instigator of all rough housing which goes on a lot with the other dog, an Akita name of Ronin. If you happen to be in the way, which I was more times than I wanted to be, they are able to knock you over with not much trouble and leave you with bruising and toe nails landing on your feet leave a really good gouge. A firm voice can settle them down, thank goodness.
2- This is Ronin who seems to be not all there at times as he has to get to know you every time you visit. My glasses gouge into my face unless I put cushions on them. The cushions make me look like a giant insect, so that little fact made him dislike me more than usual. I baby sat both dogs and cat, twice, while Jeanne and hubby made some short trips of 5 days the first time and 3 the next. That took care of any problems the dog and I had. He made up with me and we did just fine which made me happier than it made the dog.
3- As I did all the food and watering and putting them on an outside chain a few times a day in between walks that grown kids took care of morning and evening, the dogs had to depend on me for all else including entertainment
4- This is Cappy (Captain) and he is also a sort of nut case but totally opposite of Ronin. He didn’t mind my glasses and managed to slobber all over me at every turn as he thinks I’m wonderful and should love on him and play catch and hand him treats whenever he thought I should. Where Ronin is a very picky eater, Cappy will eat anything not nailed down including a basket of grapes I had fixed for a snack for myself to eat while reading. I left my chair to get some hot coffee and he took advantage of my absense to take the grapes, every single one, and eat them himself. I didn’t find anything he would not eat where Ronin turns up his nose at nearly everything.
5- Both dogs are sweet when they settle in with you but this one is not satisfied unless he thinks you love him best of all over and above husbands, sisters or other dogs.
Both Ronin and Capppy turned into hams for my camera which kept me entertained while pet sitting. Between reading my book, taking photos, working on a document for my sister, I managed to keep busy during my stay. So that’s it for my animal photos and these dog photos are the newest thing I have to offer. You might say hot off the press.
I did catch up on all the challenges I missed while gone. If you are interested in seeing my entries, Click on the entry name to get there.
Until the next challenge, thanks for your visit and comments.
Have a great week,

Your photos of dogs are wonderful . Technically they are perfect.
They depict very well the temper of the dogs .
I would have defiance of Ronin who don’ t look quiet .
At the opposite you photo shows how Cappy is a brave and debonaire dog .
You have been very busy with those two rascals , Becka .
Love
Michel
You have not only captured dogs here Becca you have got their characters too. Nicely done. ~ Tim
Your dogs are so funny…oodles of personality.
Beautiful doggie portraits!
Beautiful big guy and I love the first photo. Looks like they are laughing and grinning.
@fauquet - Hi Michel, I have to admit I was not overly fond of watching Ronin at first. He growled at me for a week before my sister took her first trip and in fact he tried a nip at me once. We did get things on an even keel though and he behaved himself to the point of being a very nice dog. I felt much better about being responsible for him after he started to behave.
@graphic_excesses - Hi Tim, thanks for the visit and I can tell you when the dogs began jumping around, they really were characters.
@fetherland - Hi to you and the dogs did show off their funny sides after a while. I think they got the message they were going to be on Xanga.
@destination_34s - Thank you so much. I’ll let my sister know her dogs went over well through their photos on Xanga.
@styx_site - The dogs really did get rowdy more in the evening and they could really be dangerous and more than one smile showed up in photos. I think they must be very happy when tearing around getting their exercise. Too big, both of them for my house and in fact for my sisters. They were always in the way of walking through.
Thanks Becca and John for the Father’s Day card , I have just received .
What a surprise !
Thanks again
Love
Michel
ps : I have just read your answer above . You were right with Ronin . A time of adaptation was needed.
Sounds like the dogs were more of a challenge than taking the photos! I don’t care for big boistrous myself,I admire your patience!
Cappy looks like a movie star dog. His face is so expressive.
@fauquet - You are so welcome for the card. More about Ronin, I had made up my mind that at my age I could not fight with him so I just treated him like th eother one, offering a bite of food here and there and when time to go out I hooked up the first one and then Ronin who wanted out too so that went easy enough and coming in from outside about the same. We did fine after a while which I was very glad of. I really didn’t want to end up mauled or eaten by a dog.
@Zimbo - Hi, I’m not into the big dogs anymore though I have owned some but my choice were much more docile big dogs, Russian Wolfhounds, beautiful and basically gentle. Now, only a small dog for myself if ever. We do have a cat who is pretty nice though he likes John much more than it likes me. I’m just one of the servants.
@Dilettanti - Thanks for the comment about my photos of Cappy. He is a lovely dog that is very happy and sweet as long as you feed him bites of yours or snacks of his and love on him. He has never minded the camera which is a big help if you enjoy taking photos. Have a really good week.
In San Diego, California, we have a dry climate and right now my nose feels drier than that lizard and it’s not even all that hot. Also, since we got Cagney from the pound, when he was about a year, we don’t know what mixture he is. Sometimes I also think French bulldog, even pit bull, other times he looks like a cat. Thanks for visiting. No special responsibility in being a “friend” as I’m not so good at keeping up with others myself.
I’m playing catch-up. Your dog studies are really nice, I think their character comes across in them.
I’m not much into akitas, but Cappy looks like a ball of fun. Hope he doesn’t pee in the house (damn boy dogs!).
@halie - About the dogs, I don’t think anything in the house but outside you can tell boy dogs live there. The Akita was nice enough when he decided I lived there but too big a dog for me. And way too much hair, he always lookds hot. I read a great story about Akita in the AKC book if I recall. It was a never forget story and impressed me with their faithfulness.
