the Weekly Photo Challenge
It runs for one full week from Friday mornings to late Thursday nights. The challenge beginning August 20, 2010 is:“Anything made of Glass”
suggested by: Styx_SiteI love glass, all kinds from decorative to strictly functional (glass pots and pans). A couple of images of decorative glass.
1- This vase is from an Ohio artist, Eicholt. I love the mix of green shades. It’s wonderful for nice tall stems.
2- Most of these bottles are older than I am. Most belonged to my mother so I’ve enjoyed them for a lot of years. Others get added to my glass collection whenever something strikes my fancy.
Have a super week and thanks always for your comments.

The vase is gorgeous. I love old bottles too. Use to have a few displayed, but they got packed away in a box and are living in the garage. Nice pics for the challenge. Have a good one.
Beautiful, especially the first one with the flowers in the green vase.
@Jaynebug - Hi, we have our share of stored items too. I wonder if they will ever find a spot to be a part of the family again. I need more room, lol. Becca
@grannyinboxers - Thank you. I have always loved glass, I think I had an early start in its appreciation as mom collected and displayed bottles in our west windows where the sun shown through them in the evenings.
Great entry – I love the vase !:)

@fauquet - Hi Michelle, I can tell you a little about some of the bottles. The larger brown on the left with the grapes impressed was a wine bottle I am pretty sure. The top was screw top not corked. There is an apothocaries bottle with a top on it near the back left so I assume it had something to do with medications. The smaller bottle left front is still full and has a label on it in poor condition. The bottle is filled with honey from Cuba. I’m not sure how old it is but it has to be at least 45 or more years old as trade and visiting was cut off from the U.S. for many years. The bottle to the rear on the right is of clay, not glass and beer used to be bottled in bottle of this kind here in the Cincinnati, area. The trademark reads “the Christian Moerlein Brewing Co Cincinnati O” and the advertising around the trademark reads Exhilarating, Stimulating, Rejuvinating, Wholesome, Delicious, and Pure Jug Lager Krug Bier. The bottle was made in Scotland and the beer bottled in Cincinnati. They use also a leafy background and cherubs which really sets off the beer drinking personality, LOL. Immigrants to Cincinnati were a large population of German descent and they do love their beer. The clear bottle right front (codd bottle) has a cobalt blue marble inside the flare at the top. It contained a fizz drink whereby the pressure from the fizz pushed the marble to the top of the bottle, against a gasket to keep it closed. I recall the use of the clay bottles but not of the bottle with the marble in it. This bottle was made in the U.K. and the bottle reads, HINDLE & Co Blackpool. You can see the Moerline bottle better on this page: http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/moerleins-old-jug-lager-krug-bier-bottle and their are very good photos and information on the codd bottle here: http://sha.org/bottle/glossary.htm
I also love glass. Even milk glass. Great pictures of yours.
Hi Becca!
I hope you are well!
I loved the vase best as it’s beautiful with the flowers. But also enjoyed the bottles, specially after your additional informations =) My mother told me about the bottles with the marble inside. It was very popular here, about 50 years ago or more…
This week is your week of Photo Challenge, (Keepsake Theme) so I came to see your photos! Did you forget it? =)
I uploaded mine already and hope you enjoy it!
I wish you a nice week!
Isabel
@WhataWonderfulNewWorld - No, have not forgotten but am slow. I’ll try to get it up later this evening or may be late tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder Isabelle. Sometimes I need an extra push.
I see your house is full of family history in the shape of glass must cause you an awful lot of dusting. Pretty bottles and a lovely vase. ~ Tim
@tim_beddard - Hi Tim, yes, lots of glass bottles here and lots of dust. Hoping to improve on the removal of dust with glass doors sometime or other. Have done so in one bedroom display case. Glad to see your comment. I have company here but will be sure to see the rest of your comments and will look to see if you have done anything new in xanga. Hope you are doing well. You never did reply to my question about how the little puppy is getting along. She has to be old enough you would have her at home with you now. Becca
