    Weekly Photo Challenge

    the subject from Czolya is:

    “Future”

The future is a highly iffy proposition for man and beast.  It always has been.  Today with machinery, chemicals, air pollution, polluted water systems and a world population exploded to numbers I can’t conceive of the “Future” is more unstable than ever.  For the smallest of creatures affected by food, air and water conditions much more easily than man who himself is at the mercy of those who believe themselves to be Gods, survival and the ”Future” may become nonexistent more quickly than we realize.  What pleasures do we humans (and I use that term loosely) look forward to when we have only ourselves to satisfy our curiosities?

    “Through the Glass”

I take a lot of “Through the Glass” shots as many of my photos are taken while traveling in the car. Having done so much of it I have to say, the amazing thing about glass to me is, it gives character from the outside or the inside to whatever it is you are looking through it to.

    My Photos

    ThroughTheGlass_2002Loveland_RSBlain.jpg

From the cold of a Winter’s night the light shining through a glass is warm and inviting.

    ThroughTheGlass_2002Loveland-2_RSBlain.jpg

Put us on the inside looking out into the frozen Winter and you can feel the cold even if you are safe and secure.

    ThroughTheGlass_2002Loveland-3_RSBlain.jpg

Looking through a windshield drenched and dripping with raindrops filled with the colored lights of shops you are still able to feel the wet clammy cold of the moisture which might nearly drown you if you were out in it.

    ThroughTheGlass_2007Va4BayBrTun_RSBlain.jpg

And traveling behind the windshield in the hot or cold air of an underground tunnel can leave you breathless to get out of it thankful the glass of the windshield protected you from the whipping wind traveling through the tunnel at the same time as your auto.

Taking photos through the glass under any of the many conditions Nature throws at us is an amazing feat.  Light travels through your eye and through the camera lens and for the photos on this page through the glass to the image which would be seen differently for each of us holding the camera.

How exciting and motivating! for more of the same.

    Keep on taking those photos,

  • Art Rage Challenge, “Pet Peeves”

    Art Rage Challenge

The topic for the month of February 2008 is:
     ”Pet Peeves”

It’s a definite I have pet peeves but the one I am most peevish about is lack of respect.  A lack of respect leads to many transgressions and the transgression I include here for my pet peeve is “Trash”.

    ArtRage_PetPeeves_RSBlain.jpg

I tried to give my trash a bit of an artistic flair as it seems pretty sad to do an Art Rage with “Just trash”.  I think the bits of color create opposites which make the trash seem even more trashy, a good thing if you are complaining, which I am.

    ArtRage_PetPeeves2_RSBlain.jpg

The trash photos I took and I took quite a few were all centered in a single location of small shops in our area.  My thought is if business owners care so little about keeping an area they sell from neat how can they expect respect from the shoppers?  If I had the where with all I would make sure people caught trashing would pay stiff penalties and also do a lot of clean up to remind them just how much trashing affects us all.

My banners would read “Trash a little, Pay a LOT”.

    Weekly Photo Challenge

    the subject from ThePorchswingpoet is:

     ”Nuts”

I have decided to interpret “Nuts” as “Nuts or Crazy About” as I am “Nuts” about some things.  For instance, I am nuts about Fresh Strawberry Pie, Movies, Photography and comfortable chairs.  For this challenge,

    I am
    “Nuts About” COLOR

    Some of my Photos

I am limiting what I put into this entry as I think there are people who do the challenge who can’t load my pages.

All of my pics in this entry have been played with to enhance their appearance with what I call “story book colors”.

    Nuts1_RSBlain.jpg

I tend to look for color I am “NUTS About” when out with my camera.  This is a jeep hill climb.  I loved the color of the autos in the track plus the colors of our flag flying as part of the view.

    Nuts4_RSBlain.jpg

I took this photo on the 4th of July, 2003 in downtown Loveland.  There is always a lot of color on the 4th and I’m crazy “NUTS About” the colorful fireworks and parades.

    Nuts10_RSBlain.jpg

I hunt for McDonald’s Restaurants as I am “NUTS About” their bright colors.  They always fly the flag here in the states which makes me happy.  I am assuming they fly flags for all the different countries they do business in.

    Nuts8_RSBlain.jpg

The yellow school bus never goes by without me trying for snap shots.  I have loads of photos with them as I am really “NUTS About” their bright yellow color.

Hoping my colors weren’t too off the wall for the viewer.  I really don’t want to appear “NUTS” in my entries, just colorful.

Have a great week and keep on taking those photos.

    Weekly Photo Challenge

    the subject from Closethippie is:

     “Water for Recreation”

If there is a common denominator for water recreation around the world I would have to say it would be bathing.  Everyone loves a tub of hot water.  As the only tub bath photos I have are of my feet, I’ll bypass the common denominator.

    My Photos

    WaterRec2_Isabella2007_RSBlain.jpg

    Lake Isabella 1

We have a lot of very nice Hamilton County parks in our area.  Water recreation is included at all of them.  The closest to our home is Lake Isabella only 3 miles down the road.  We visit often when the weather is nice and sometimes when it isn’t.  It’s a small park where you can do about anything except golf, hunt or swim.  We like to feed the ducks and talk about the lack of concern for the park.  Fishermen are a pretty messy bunch who appear to care little about the tangle of line they leave on the shore and in the water.  We have coveted several fat geese for our table we have seen tangled.  So far someone else has managed to get to the trapped birds or maybe a fox.

    WaterRec2b_Isabella2007_RSBlain.jpg

    Lake Isabella 2

The lake is stocked with fish at least twice a year and rain, sleet and snow you may see recreational fishermen on the shores of the lake with lines thrown in while toasting their feet at a recreational fire.

    WaterRec4_SharonWoods2006_RSBlain.jpg

Sharon Woods Hamilton County Park is larger than Isabella and includes a much larger lake for water recreation.  It has peddle boats for rent and motorized cruise boats besides row boats for fishing.  They have a wonderful golf course and a city of historic buildings decorated at Christmas but available for view year round during special park hours.  There is a nice museum and always nature classes.

This view shows a fisherman enjoying water recreation on the Ohio river as seen from Woodland Mound Hamilton County park.

    WaterRec7_RockyForkHills2007_RSBlain.jpg

This is Rocky Fork lake in Hillsboro, Ohio.  Lots of swimming goes on in the hot months as well as boating and camping.

    WaterRec8_RockyForkHills2007_RSBlain.jpg

This is a normal hot afternoon of recreational water play in the lake at Rocky Fork

    WaterRec9_Rockford2006_RSBlain.jpg

Recreational fishing doesn’t just happen at the lake.  Some of my best photos came from here on the river in Rockford, Illinois where the locals picnic on the banks while they fish.  Lots of broken glass keep you from running barefoot but no one fishing seems to mind.

    FriendshipCoolDown_RSB

A repeat performance of this photo I caught from the overhead bridge at Friendship, Indiana.  The day was hotter than Hades and the water was nice.  Kids always know where to find water recreation and when to enjoy it.

    WaterRec8_VaSwimPractice_RSBlain.jpg

My grand daughter began swimming on teams while in Spain.  She brought the interest back home to the states so she now swims on her team at Princess Anne School in Virginia.  I took the photo but haven’t a clue if she is in the pic.  I couldn’t tell her from Adam or other swimmers in the water.

Another repeat, this is Eden transposed from a shot her mom took in Spain during a swim meet.  I transposed Halie’s photo to one I took in the USA at a little spot on the Miami River.

This view also from our Ashland trip.  My water recreation comes in the form of taking photos.

    WaterRec14_EdenParkJan2008_RSBlain.jpg

This family enjoys looking at the water as they rest a little from their biking.  I caught them at the overlook in Eden Park in Cincinnati.

    WaterRec15b_EdenParkJan2008_RSBlain.jpg

My taking photos of all the wet stuff I can find along with whatever comes along on the ride is a tremendous recreation for me.  This shot has probably been documented by the millions by previous camera buffs but today, it’s mine taken as a practice shot.  I looked at the hills and little homes and thought “Christmas Village”.

    WaterRec15_EdenParkJan2008_RSBlain.jpg

One last image for the road and I’ll put this entry to bed like the boats in the harbor.  Sails unfurled they sleep fitfully waiting for boating weather or sooner.  Water recreation advocates can’t be tied up for long.

    Keep on taking those photos,

  • Art Rage Challenge, “Late”

    Art Rage Challenge

The topic for the month of January 2008 is:
     ”Late”

Sorry my entry is so “Late”.  I have accomplished what plans I made for this entry but it took a while to get out to do.

    ArtRage_Late1_RSBlain.jpg

    Late #1

Late is a word most of us are familiar with as most of us fall into the category sometime or other (for instance my entry for this challenge).  What came to me as an idea was how many people drive “dangerously late”.  We see them run the lights all the time in our area.  I didn’t catch exactly what I wanted in my images but you will get the idea.

    ArtRage_Late2_RSBlain.jpg

    Late #2

John and I laughed at this one as even the tires have disappeared in the image.  I believe this driver may be later than he would like to be one of these days.

    BlogAnniversary_1-20-2006_Trooper

This is an older photo I had to dig for but I wanted to add it to this entry.  I think all viewers would agree, this drivers plans were done in.  I catagorize him as ”very late”.

  • Weekly Photo Challenge, “Dreams”

    Weekly Photo Challenge

    the subject from EnigmaGrl  is:

     “Dreams”

An interesting challenge, “Dreams”.  I found myself fishing for ideas as my dreams have been relatively mild in comparison to others I have heard of.  If I were younger and starting over and the opportunity and technology were there I would say my dream to be a noted outdoor photographer traveling the world of nature with my trusty digital cam and onboard computer with the abilities to post to some fantastic outlet where my talents would be in demand might have been obtainable.  As I have to pass up that idea, I’ll settle for what I can photograph and the ability to post in Xanga.  You might say I’m very easy.

    Some of “my Dreams” Photos

    Kit2_MexicanCornbread

I love to cook and I love to eat.  I always have.  My “Dream” is to continue bettering my cooking skills.  I also dream of eating and not gaining weight.  As long as I’m dreaming I’d like to be able to EAT and LOSE, stabilizing at about 135 goodlooking pounds.

    WP_ApplesNEden

I could stand being younger, better looking and feisty and able to climb a tree.  This is my grand daughter in this image (year 2001, she is 17 now).  I would like to be able to be in a tree with her.  Having my camera in the tree with me to catch what goes on out of the tree would be nice.

    Getting past the unobtainable …

    12-2-2005_Challenge_RestingPlace7-1000

Photography is increasingly important to me.  My dream is to learn my new camera, all the ins and outs and applying what I learn while managing not to shake a lot while taking my photos.  I want to take really good photos.

    Dreams_NightPhotos.jpg

I dream of taking some fine night time City scapes floating across the waters of the Ohio River.  I am learning and the new cam is a dream come true in itself.  I couldn’t take a night shot this decent before I received it.

    Dreams2.jpg

And catching (not near misses of) moving shots with all the settings right before the subject is out of the picture is a dream I will manage … WITH some PRACTICE.

Dreams are just dreams, until we shoot for realism.  But dreams are motivation for excellence or possibly uniqueness so I dream with hopes for what is possible.

I have been fortunate to have always had good friends.  I have some lovely Internet friends, some really fine neighbor friends and I grew up with some very close childhood friends.  My best friend for most of my life though has been my husband.  Our daughter adores him and I can’t think of a person who dislikes him.  For myself, I never grow tired of being around him and our 40th Anniversary was New Years eve.

  • Weekly Photo Challenge, “Dependence”

    Weekly Photo Challenge

    the subject from butterflyxlife is:

     “Dependence”

I really hate the word dependence.  It conjures up all the ills of the world.

Few of us could survive without dependence, now, on from someone who provides the food we eat to the clothes we wear to the medications we use to the production of motor driven vehicles which have replaced our legs.  I find it to be a sad state of affairs as all of us are dependent in some way and most to the point of addiction though inadvertently.

Partial Definition:  the state of relying on or needing someone or something for aid, or support, reliance on and a state of being psychologically or physiologically dependent on a drug after a prolonged period of use.  And I would add here we are dependents on oil and cars or transport to the point of addiction as most of us would not give our cars or transport up.

Recycled photos for this challenge …

    Mts_Hills_LaborDay2-2007_RSBlain

In the not so long ago past the road system was less sophisticated made of gravel and mud.  We didn’t do as much traveling long distance.  If we did, a horse and buggy or a wagon was used.

    Halloween2007-7b2-500S.jpg

When mechanized machinery came about it changed our world from one of backbreaking labor to less strenuous.  Where we had used horses to plow fields we graduated to tractors which could do more work in less time.  The downside was the pollution created from the fuels needed to operate the machinery.  The upside we didn’t need to have as many babies to do the farmhand work.

    Alien5_RSBlain.jpg

The fact is, with tractors able to do more we still had to many farmhands even though we had less babies so a large portion of the population moved to cities to work where subdivisions were built where you could barely till a small garden and you could not have a cow if you wanted one.  As food was no longer grown at home you had to go to a grocery which living in a division was some miles away so no walking, you bought a car and you drove it.

    Alien3_RSBlain.jpg

No horses in the city but cowboys still exist so modern cowboys rode two wheeled horses that could carry them farther and faster than any horse in existence.

    LightAndShadow1

Schools were no longer within walking distance so we had to have buses.

    Alien6_RSBlain.jpg

And lots of trains to ship the food stuff fast and eventually trucks took over the majority of that role.

    GreenVWByEE

And to think of staying home and playing board games or entertaining with talents you developed is absurd as it’s more fun to ride around in circles in cars looking for whatever you might find within the circle.  In my youth we called it joyriding but now I call it sad.

Would you call this dependence? and a road to addiction?
