“the Alphabet Game” suggested by IceCradle“The Alphabet Game” is played keeping in mind no professional signs should be included but instead, images of anything that naturally gives the appearance of a letter of the alphabet somewhere in the image.
My Photos
This was a harder challenge for me. I am beginning with a Lily whose flower reminded me of an Asterisk. It’s not a letter but it is on our keyboards.
We save things that become useless to us then turn them in as recycle junk. I took photos of the mess at the salvage yard. The photos came in handy for this challenge as this trashed clothes dryer top / opening is clearly in the shape of a “D”.
The traffic light system from this angle is deffinitely in the shape of an “E”.
This image may appear a little far fetched but can you see the “i” in the old tree trunk? It is clearly dotted at its top.
Workmen working on the side of the road and I haven’t any idea what that is on the side but it’s an “O” for this challenge.
The vines traveling around this tree make a nearly perfect “U”.
And here the trees have planted themselves as a pair forming a beautiful view as well as the “V” for the word.
I’ll end with another Asterisk in a set. The bright sun bouncing off the car windows made them nearly as perfect as those made like this *.
I’ll be late commenting on entries as we leave in just a few to spend a day with my sister. Have a super week and keep on taking those photos.

Weekly Photo Challenge: “Spring Colours” and “What can bring a tear to your eye?”
Weekly Photo Challenge (2 entries)“Spring Colours” suggested by StixAndStonzand”What can bring a tear to your eye?” suggested by Ataris822“SPRING COLOURS”: the joy of renewal comes with colorful/colourful Spring Flowers.
My Photos
Spring brings out the sellers and the buyers.
Then, flowers are planted everywhere which is great for photo taking.
I replanted the area around our porch with Impatiens,
Pansies, Petunias, and some dwarf Zinnia.
This is one of my pots filled with Impatiens. I love Spring.“TEARS”: I have shed tears because I was hurt, sad, happy or fit to be tied with bouts of rage/outrage or fear. I have cried when provoked through real encounters, reading books or watching movies.
I love movies. Movies, in my estimation, to be good, must elicit emotion from the viewer. Some movies are tears jerkers for part of or all of the above mentioned reasons and I enjoy taking part in the tear jerking experience. If I laugh or cry or get angry, I know I realized what the screenplay writer wanted me to feel and maybe a bit of what he didn’t.
A few of my photos from movies that make me emotional as I like them well enough to watch them over and over. The images were taken with my Canon Digital Rebel as I watched the television screen. (Don’t zoom in, it makes the lines show up more. Take photos at an angle not straight ahead and use a very slow shutter speed plus the light needed)
A much shortened list of some of my VERY FAVORITE MOVIES after the images.
Excitement, elation, awe, and a few tears in the Ring movies.
A photo from The Lord of the Rings: “Return of the King“.Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn Harrison Ford in “Blade Runner” a story of Replicantsdeveloped as slaves for man’s use but who become so intelligentthey develop feelings and a sense of survival.
Some fear and tears and more in this movie.Ken Watanabe in “The Last Samurai“, one of myvery, very favorite movies, a real tear jerker for me, it’s terrific.Patrick Swayze in “Dirty Dancing” and it’s filled with emotions.I love super hero movies, good over evil.
All the Batman movies are filled with excitement
and lots of special effects to keep you alert, amazed, emotional.
The color in Batman 3 is so exciting it can’t help
but keep you emotionally appreciative of the art involved.
Dick Tracy is another movie I love, filled with color and surprises. The list of movies below all bring tears and just thinking about some of them will do it.1- Bridges of Madison County w/Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep.2- The Last Samurai w/Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe3- Amistad w/Morgan Freeman4- Braveheart w/Mel Gibson5- Brokeback Mountain w/Keith Ledger6- 50 First Dates, a really nice love story and well done comedy that brings some tears w/Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.7- Yentl w/Barbara Streisand and Mandy Patinkin.8- Million Dollar Baby w/Clint Eastwood, Hilary Swank, and Morgan Freeman9- Unforgiven w/Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman10- The Lion in Winter w Katherine Hepburn and a 2nd w/ Glenn Close, both great.11- Witness w/Harrison Ford12- One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest w/Jack Nicholson13- Easy Rider w/Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda14- The Notebook w/James Garner15- Mr. Smith Goes to Washington w/Jimmy Stewart16- Message in a Bottle w/Kevin Costner with a tear jerker of an ending. As you can see, I love variety. I own hundreds of movies including from better children’s stories to the dramatic and scary. I have shed a lot of tears while being entertained and at the same time, done some learning, from a tremendous lot of viewpoints within the movies and gone places I could never get to in any other way.“Have movies, will travel.”Tears to all of you and keep on taking those photos. -
Weekly Photo Challenge: “Air shows”
”AIR SHOWS” suggested by JaynebugI would love to go to an air show! of any kind, models or the real thing. I am now and always have been fascinated by airplanes or blimps or balloons. I find them all more than interesting. I believe I have somewhere some images of flying lawn mowers and planes etc built by model enthusiasts, which my uncle used to be. We had many occasions to see lots of flying models but we seldom get to shows anymore.THAT IS NOT TO SAY I HAVE NO PHOTOS BECAUSE I GRAB PHOTOS, INCLUDING FLYING OBJECTS, FROM WHERE I CAN WHEN I CAN.My Photos / My Air Show1- NAVY JETS: When in Virginia, Virginia Beach U.S.A. we always find time for some beach time and as the naval base and military airstrips are right there, I can usually catch something flying overhead. This and Photo #2 we taken in September of 2006 with my Kodak DC 4800. Not a really sophisticated camera but it took some fine photos.2- NAVY JETS and I have no idea how high they are but they make a really fine air show doing nothing but take off, fly and land.3- This photo and those following were all taken with my Canon Rebel in Columbus, Ohio, USA. My sister lives only a few miles from the airport and planes fly overhead often during landings and takeoff. My goal, catch an image so sharp and close-up I can see the pilot or passengers.4- United Airliner5- a closer look at a portion of image #4.6- I haven’t a clue about this plane but it provided a fine picture and excitement for me as I took the images I am displaying for “AIR SHOWS”.Have a super week and continue taking those photos. -
Weekly Photo Challenge: “5 Cherished Possessions”, Superstition, Super Close, Your Wheels”
This week, 4 challenge entries1- “5 Cherished Material Possessions” suggested by TressaD4- “Your Wheels” suggested by StixAndStonz
Its seldom I manage to make the break completely from the computer. This past month I managed more than usual doing some outdoor relaxing and a lot of movie watching. Any typing on the computer keyboard was strictly for the fun of it, no schedule no hassle attempting to salve the fact I DID NOT get to see my granddaughter graduate. My back dictates my schedules and it dictated that I stay home while John went to Virginia. I wasn’t terrifically happy. You would think I would be used to not always getting what I want. Anyway …1- suggested by TressaD 5 Cherished Material Possessions include Photos, Books, Movies, my digital camera and computer in that order and that totals 5. These things are what I’d be unhappy to lose over and above most other material things we have.More than 5 of my DVD in a pile. I changed my sorting method so piles everywhere.2- suggested by Polleekin SuperstitionDefinition from Thesaurus http://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/Superstition,Part of Speech: noun magic Definition: supernatural power; appearance Synonyms: alchemy, allurement, astrology, augury, bewitchment, black art, conjuring, conjury, devilry, diabolism, divination, enchantment, exorcism, fascination, foreboding, fortune-telling, hocuspocus, horoscopy, illusion, incantation, legerdemain, magnetism, necromancy, occultism, of impossible feats by tricks abracadabra, power, prediction, presage, prestidigitation, prophecy, rune, sleight of hand, soothsaying, sorcery, sortilege, spell, superstition, taboo, thaumaturgy, trickery, voodoo, voodooism, witchcraft, wizardry
The Ring stories/movies are based on this ring, the black magic it carries and the need to destroy it. I took the photo while watching my DVD on our television.3- suggested by TressaD Super Close Ups4- suggested by StixAndStonz Your WheelsOur one and only car.Hoping to get back more quickly this next time around. -
Weekly Photo Challenge, 2 entries, “Moving Day” and “Summertime Blues”
This week, 2 challenge entriesMoving Day was a hard challenge because, it’s seldom I have ever moved and the last move was about 1971 and, I had no photos of our move and though I watched, no photo ops came about. I ended up with photos of possible “movers and shakers” of household goods.Moving Day photosThis mover and shaker is a do it yourselfer. Looking at the van, he could be moving goods or maybe even a horse. This mover has his truck piled to the hilt. I imagine he had help at either end of the move.A truck like this one can carry more than a single household’s furnishings. And if it’s a big move, you may need a convoy.Summertime Blues was another challenge I am lacking in suitable photos for but here are a few I thought would cover the challenge.Summertime Blues PhotosBefore your move, you would have surveyed the area to see if the view or surroundings were suitable, if the grass was green enough or the Summer sky blue enough. You may have found some acreage with the perfect house hidden beneath the Summertime Blue sky.Or possibly the pinks and reds of the perfect cottage caught your eye as much as that blue sky with the puffy white clouds. In the end, after being settled in, you plant your own summertime blues as each of us has our own idea as to what those blues are made of and what factors in to make the blues the happiest, not the bluest of colors.I have a graduating granddaughter this week. We hope to be there. I’m not sure what kind of photos or what kind of schedule I will have. Eden is a graduate of the 12th grade of high school in the International Baccalaureate program at her school in Virginia. Some of my Xanga friends were instrumental in encouraging her and helping her to go to a special Summer program a couple of years ago. I want to thank all of you special people again and I know Eden is greatful for your encouragements as well.Until the next time,Keep on taking those photos. -
Weekly Photo Challenge, “Alternate Reality”
This weeks Challenge”Alternate Reality”Suggested by CzolyaThere have been two people in my life who were/are a big influence. My mother and my husband. I would definitely have an alternate reality if my dad had raised me instead of mom as they were total opposites that I have no idea how they ever found each other, dad being old school macho with an attitude women were supposed to jump and run for their husbands every whim, and mom with her belief women could be and do anything and that women should be appreciated and treated with respect instead of subservient.Husbands? Some of them are baddies as are some of the women men marry. For me, another husband is nearly unthinkable as mine belongs in the category of “one of the best”. People can walk a lot of different walks in this life and I am sure I could have if I had chosen other environments over family and the values my mom and husband have. I am pretty satisfied with my life, no really bad stories to tell because my mom was a major and positive influence and my husband has been as well. Looking at the horror stories people write or tell or that we hear on the news are examples of the opposite ends of what is in my world. I’m very thankful for both of my major influence as the alternative reality is a dreadful thought. My photoI don’t have a good photo of mom but she has to be mentioned first. The image, my husband, the #two biggest influence for the positive in my life. -

Weekly Photo Challenge, “Illusions”
This weeks Challenge”Illusions”Suggested by GitarezanI studied definitions of Illusion at Dictionary.com I know what an illusion is but needed more to go on. The Internet is an example, one big illusion. It has no concrete location but in fact it’s many bits and bytes of information, totally untouchable. E-mails filled with illusions / delusions and manifestations of the artistically gifted come to my inbox everyday. A lot of it I am unable to decyper because the real and the fantasy are crafted so well. You only have to search the internet for illusions to find a ton of it listed. As I haven’t photographed any illusions purposely,I’ll show you some I created, purposely. This is my side yard. The deer is there, the tiger is NOT. This image was created for a challenge to remove the tiger from the original photo and to place it into another photo. One of my best illusions at the time and I still think pretty good. The challenge was, fix it.A REAL ILLUSION / DELUSION. The cat, Rusty, was on our bed at Christmas in Virginia. The delusion is he is a really nice cat. HE’S NOT, he bites.HA, I FOUND ANOTHER ONE. A single photo, this young fellow was under the delusion I wouldn’t take the photo he deliberately walked into to ruin. WRONG, I was happy to take the photo, his delusion/illusion, destroyed. This illusion is made up of three photos. 1- The plant shop is in Virginia. 2- The pumpkin carving took place on the deck of my daughter’s house. 3- The finished jack-o-lantern hanging on the wall at the left is the face Eden carved into the pumpkin she is working on.One of my very favorite Illusions. My granddaughter Eden, her photo taken in Virginia by her mom. I placed her on the highway headed for Rockford. An eye-opening sight if the image was real. The image on the left is Raphael’s Maddalena Doni. The image on the right is my work, the lady but with a newer look, more in keeping with what we might call beautiful today. The illusion here is that I can do this easily or at any time I want to. In reality, my delusion even though I wish for the ability. Some of us have it and some of us don’t. -
Weekly Photo Challenge, “Can You Hear Me Now”
This weeks Challenge”Can You Hear Me Now”Suggested by me: PhotoGraphicsI picked the title for this challenge from the Verizon ads. It’s a changing world and you can see the change when people can’t go anywhere without their cell phone. What pressure to have to carry a phone with you all of the time, never to escape the world of other people. Don’t get me wrong, I understand the advantages but I have to wonder at some things I see when it comes to cell phones and texting. Because of cell phones being carried everywhere, I have had a lot of fun catching photos. So, some photos:Can you hear me now?Convenient but for me, I’ll take my time away from home with as little interference as I have always had. NO PHONES THANK YOU.Keep on taking those photos -
Weekly Photo Challenge, “Your Favorite Season”
This weeks Challenge”Your Favorite Season”Suggested by: StixAndStonzI love all the seasons. Making comparisons in my head while typing, I think I have to select Spring as my favorite. I do get worn out with CONSTANT EXTREMES like heat, cold, rain and snow. as I’m sitting here looking out the door at the fresh new green of hedges and pansies blooming and birds singing in the background I think to myself, the birds sing more in the Spring calling for mates, nest building, and claiming of territories. To me its all just singing, an emphasis, along with my door open to hear the bird song while looking at the Springtime colors.ALL NEW PHOTOS, taken this Spring
in my part of the world.Daffodils and Tulips are sure signs but when the Forsythia blooms, I know its Spring. It’s Spring when I see balloons flying overhead. I took about a 100 frames of this fellow flying and managed only 1 with the gas flames. Thinking electric wires are dangerous enough without flames.Frisbees flying in the park and guys in short pants and sleeveless shirts, while climbing trees to retrieve frisbees lodged in the branches, are a sure sign of Spring. And seeing festival rides loaded in trucks, headed for a fair, is another sure sign of Spring. I know Summer is not far behind.I love Vinca. It’s an early little flowering ground cover that doesn’t mind cool weather and it pops right out in the Spring. My blooming Vinca and pansies at the shops for setting out, are a strong indication it’s Spring. When families are picnicking at the lake, cooking out and staying till dark, it’s Spring. And seeing green leaves and growth reflected in the lake is a reminder of how much I like the season.Have a super week and keep on taking your photos.
